Foscam P2P Security Announcement
Regarding to the doubt of the P2P connection matter concerned by some of the bloggers and users. We, Foscam, hereby, would like to make this official statement in response.
Foscam's P2P is adopting the heartbeat connection for the P2P, which is a “private network which is shared only by the cluster nodes”(Wikipedia). It's safe and secure, just as many other connection methods. From the perspective of technology, heartbeat connection is completely risk-free. But in order to remove user’s doubt, Foscam will release a new firmware which enables the user to turn off P2P function at discretion. With the new firmware users can turn off the heartbeat connection independently when they do not need P2P function. We will inform all the users of the update information via Foscam official website, forum and APP once the new firmware is released in the early April.
Secondly, Foscam is a global company focusing on IP camera for more than 8 years. We pay great attention to user’s privacy. Our P2P server is used to check the connection status with the server, so that our user can establish a direct communication when accessing FOSCAM camera via APP. But all the data has been encrypted with RSA & AES algorithm, “most secure encryption algorithms available today”(boxcryptor.com). In that case, FOSCAM cameras are safe to use as security surveillance devices.
As a reliable provider of IP cameras, FOSCAM has worked up to a global player with eight years’ continuous efforts. We appreciate the confidence and trust our users have placed in us. What concerns our customers has always been and will continue to be FOSCAM’s top concern. We will definitely make unremitting efforts to ensure the comprehensive security of our products.
